Reserving your name in WoW Forever

Reservation is open until November 3 and covers three characters at most. That means three full names, first and last, not one. This page is here to help you have them ready.

The timeline

  1. Beta, September 17 to October 23, 2026

Measured in the client during the beta: twelve characters for the first name, twelve for the last name, and the thirteenth letter is refused. Blizzard has not published this, so it is our reading and not an official rule.

  2. Name reservation, October 27 to November 3, 2026

An eight-day window, opening October 27 at 18:00 CET in Europe and 1 p.m. PDT in North America. First come, first served, which is why spare names are worth having.

  3. Launch, November 4, 2026

Characters created at launch take whatever names are left.

What to prepare

  • Three full names, not three first names: reservation covers three characters only, across every playstyle. Two names claimed on PvP leave just one for Normal or Roleplay.
  • A fallback last name that works with the same first name: it is the pair that has to be free, across the whole region, so a first name someone already took is not lost to you.
  • The list in front of you, not in your head: our generator keeps your favourites in the browser and copies them in one gesture.

Checking a name before you reserve it

The generator’s checker applies the known World of Warcraft rules: length, a single capital, letters only, and it rejects the names of the game’s characters. It cannot tell you whether a name is already taken: that is only possible once the window is open. Moderation reads both parts together: splitting a restricted word between the first and last name does not make it pass.

Who can reserve

Early Name Reservation requires a pre-purchased Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection. Without one of the three, you claim your name at launch, on November 4.

Last names

For the first time in twenty-two years, your character carries a first name and a last name. Here is what is known, and how to build one that holds up in the lore.

A last name that means something

Blizzard translates last names: Proudmoore becomes Portvaillant in French. So do we. Every name is built from roots translated by hand into six languages, with grammatical gender, and its meaning is shown. Last names in WoW Forever

A paladin leans towards light and steel, a warlock towards shadow, a druid towards the moon and the beasts. The new Forever combinations are in: undead paladin, dwarf shaman, human hunter, orc mage, gnome priest, troll warlock.

The Skyborne

Exiled by the Highborne and abandoned by their elemental patrons, the Skyborne are at a crossroads. Their journey begins on Zephras Isle, in Skywall. Playable in both factions: travel the Arcane road with the Alliance, or master the Elements with the Horde.

Frequently asked questions

Before reservation day

Do WoW Forever characters really have a last name?

Yes. The official @Warcraft account confirmed it on September 13, 2026: a World of Warcraft: Forever character will bear a first name and a last name, a first since the game launched.

Are these names accepted in game?

First names follow the known rules: 2 to 12 letters, no digits or spaces. Last names are always generated as a single word, with no space or hyphen, which the game will reject.

When can I reserve my name?

Early name reservation runs from October 27 to November 3, 2026, ahead of the November 4 launch. Names are first come, first served: keep a few spares.

Are the Skyborne available?

Yes. Blizzard has not published any Skyborne names yet, so the generator follows the announced spirit: high elven elegance and the element of Air, with no plant vocabulary. We will adjust as soon as the beta shows some.

Can two players get the same name?

The generator composes thousands of combinations. The same set only comes back through the same shared link.

What is Realmless Azeroth?

Blizzard announced a Realmless Azeroth: each playstyle (PvP, PvE, Roleplay, and Hardcore later on) shares a version of the world. Keep a few spare names ready for reservation day.
